Gezi Parkı’nda başlayan ve devamında tüm Türkiye’ye “özgürlük” talebiyle yayılan eylemlere karşı baskı politikalarını artırarak yanıt veren hükümet, hedefine medya kuruluşlarını aldı. İktidarının başından beri kendisine yandaş bir basın düzeni oluşturmaya kararlı görülen hükümet, her şeye rağmen özgür gazetecilik yapan kurumları ve gazetecileri sindirmeye çalışmaktadır. Tutuklu meslektaşlarımızın duruşmalarında hiçbir kanıt elde yokken tutuklama kararları vermeye devam eden iktidar güdümlü yargı, “hukuk devleti” söyleminin bir yalandan ibaret olduğunu ortaya koymaya devam etmektedir.
Gezi eylemleri boyunca basın emekçileri polisler tarafından vahşice dövülmüş, darp edilmiş, sarı basın kartı terörü estirilmiştir. En az 8 gazeteci gözaltına alınmış, daha fazlası polis şiddetine maruz kalmıştır. Gezi eylemlerinin başından beri eylemde yer alan legal parti ve kuruluşları “illegal” olarak lanse ederek bir yalanı büyütmeye ve halkı etkilemeye çabalamıştır. Bu beyhude çabanın son aşaması Özgür Radyo, Etkin Haber Ajansı ve Atılım gazetesi çalışanlarına yönelik gözaltılardır. Baskınlar kapsamında Atılım Gazetesi Genel Yayın Koordinatörü Sedat Şenoğlu’nun da evi basılmış, Özgür Radyo çalışanı Selvi Coşar evi basılarak gözaltına alınmıştır. Polislerin Etkin Haber Ajansı Haber Müdürü Derya Okatan ile ETHA editörü ve ANF muhabiri Arzu Demir’in evlerini de bastığı öğrenilmiştir.
Halkın haber alma hakkına yönelik bu saldırılar kuşkusuz “Polisi güçlendireceğiz” mesajı veren hükümetin daha da otoriterleşeceğinin açık göstergeleridir.
Türkiye halklarını bu açık saldırılar karşısında hükümetin güdümüne girmediği için hedef haline gelen basın kuruluşlarının ve emekçilerinin yanında durmayı çağırıyor, hükümeti kınıyoruz. Basın kuruluşları üzerindeki baskı ve gözaltı operasyonları derhal durdurulmalı, medyaya yönelik tehdit dilinden vazgeçilmelidir.

– Freedom of press under severe threat
– Target of operations is right to be informed
The government’s response to Gezi protests all across the country, spread with a demand of “freedom”, where it has increased its dose of oppression policies, has also been targeting the media institutions.
Starting from the early days of coming to power, the government appears to be determined to create a partisan press order and is attempting to intimidate institutions and journalists that pursue and understanding of free journalism despite everything.
Judiciary, under the dictate of the government, continues to arrest our detained colleagues without substantial evidence during court hearings, and proceeds with demonstrating that the rhetoric of “rule of law” is merely a lie.
Throughout the Gezi protests, press laborers have been violently beaten by the police, where a terror of “yellow press card” took hold. A minimum of eight journalists have been taken under custody, and beyond that, they were exposed to police violence.
Legal parties and institutions that participated in the protests from the beginning are presented as “illegal,” so as to spread a lie and influence the public opinion.
The final stage of these vain attempts is the custody faced by the employees of Özgür Radio, Etkin News Agency and daily Atılım. As a part of this, General Editorial Coordinator Sedat Şenoğlu of the daily Atılım, Selvi Coşar of Özgür Radio were taken under custody by having their residences raided.
It has been learned that the residences of the news editor of Etkin News Agency, Derya Okatan and ETHA editor and ANF reporter Arzu Demir were also raided.
These attacks posed against the public’s right to be informed are unmistakable signs of government becoming yet more authoritarian as can be perceived by the message of “We will strengthen the police.”
Against these overt attacks, we are calling on the peoples of Turkey to stand with the press institutions and laborers, which become targets due to not submitting to the government. We are condemning the government.
The pressure and custody operations must be swiftly halted, and this rhetoric of threat against the media must be abandoned.
